About Sahodari Foundation

The Trustees

Sahodari is a movement, a family, and a team of young transsexual people. Sahodari was found by Kalki, a successful transsexual woman. She is the Director of the project.

Sahodari is not funded by any inland or foreign agencies. Our work is supported through our own money and small donations from friends and well wishers. We have done tremendous work with this available fund resources.

Sahodari has been functioning informally for the past 5 years. We formally registered the organisation in July 2008. We have completed one year and have been very active in transgender rights advocacy in Tamilnadu. Since the beginning of this year, our focus is also advocating for LGBT rights in the neighbouring state Kerala.

In Tamilnadu, we function in two places. In Chennai, of north Tamilnadu and in Coimbatore, of south Tamilnadu. We are yet to establish an office in Coimbatore; however we have already started working there.

The Foundation's main objectives include the following:

  • To promote social, political, and economic equity and campaign for civil and legal rights of Transgender and intersex people.

  • To work for establishing social, economic, and environmental justice for Transgenders, intersex and gender non-confirming people and to eliminate oppression and exclusion based on such factors as race, ethnicity, gender, class, religion, legal status, sexual orientation, age, and disability.

  • To prohibit discrimination based on "gender identity or expression" and ensure that the entire range of transgender, intersex and gender non-conforming people are protected.

Members and trustees of our foundation are all Transgender/ intersex persons.
