Issues we work on

Suicide and death

The death during penectomy which is performed by a quack doctor is a serious problem for the male-to-female transsexual people. Many of them have died during the surgery and their deaths are not accounted and reported.

Transgender and intersex people commit suicide owing to the hatred, discrimination and non acceptance in the family and in the society they live it. With no education, no jobs and a life tarnished because of continuous harassment, many choose death.

At Sahodari, we are lobbying with the media to create awareness among families for acceptance of transgender and intersex children.

Read the story of two of Kalki's transsexual friends who died in their early 20s. One girl died during penectomy and the other committed suicide.
